Here i will teach you how to get HL2 for free using either Portal or HL2: lost coast
1. first you'll need to download the map and sceens folder for it to work http://megaupload.com/?d=7YJCM2GL
2. Choose the instalation method that fits your needs
3. make sure to have console enabled you can find the option to enable it under advance keyboard options in the option menu
4. keep in mind that in the portal version due to an update that valve made the combines bullets will not harm you (or even fire really) but its still fun
5. the lost coast version isnt just free it also runs better but if you want a portal gun in HL2 then use the portal method
6. you can use ALL of these methods and it will work without interfering each way has its own ups and downs
PORTAL INSTAL
METHOD 1
1. first take all the files in steam\steam apps\ YOUR STEAM NAME\portal\portal except portal game stats, voice ban, media and resorce
2. paste them all in the HL2 folder in the portal folder before the one your in
3. copy the maps and sceens folders into that folder too from the HL2 content.zip
4. start off HL2 and play!! (use the hl2.exe in the main portal folder) dont forget that you have a portal gun too if you use sv_cheats 1 then type impulse 101 it will give you a portal gun. if you type sv_recharge_wait_time (enter time here) your health wont recharge untill that time is complete (your health will recharge like in portal)
METHOD 2
1. first go to steam\steam apps\ YOUR STEAM NAME\portal\portal
2. then paste the maps and sceens folder from hl2 content.zip into there
3. start portal and type maps *
4. type map (enter name here) to start it
5. ?????
6. PROFIT
dont forget that you have a portal gun too if you use sv_cheats 1 then type impulse 101 it will give you a portal gun. if you type sv_recharge_wait_time (enter time here) your health wont recharge untill that time is complete (your health will recharge like in portal)
