Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, met with the visiting Amur governor of Russia Oleg Kozhemyako and his party on October 20.
Present at the meeting were Kang Sok Ju, member of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and vice-premier, Jang Song Thaek, alternate member of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and vice-chairman of the DPRK NDC, Thae Jong Su, alternate member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the WPK Central Committee, and Ri Yong Chol, deputy department director of the WPK Central Committee.
The Amur governor presented a gift to the DPRK leader.
He expressed thanks for this, warmly welcomed the governor to the DPRK and talked with him in a cordial atmosphere.
Oleg Kozhemyako expressed the sincerest gratitude to the DPRK leader for the kind invitation and wholehearted hospitality and sparing precious time for meeting with him despite the tight schedule of leading the construction of a thriving nation.
He told Kim Jong Il that his stopover in Amur in the itinerary of his August Russia visit was the region's great glory and had left indelible imprints in the minds of the Amur people.
He said that during his stay he could see everything the DPRK does under the leadership of the WPK headed by Kim Jong Il being subordinated to the effort to make the people's livelihood more affluent and expressed the impressions he had got from his tours of the construction site of the Huichon Power Station, the large-scale Taedonggang Combined Fruit Farm and other places.
Saying that it is very important that the top leaders of Russia and the DPRK have promised cooperation between the two countries and regions, he stated that the Amur region would set a positive example in promoting the friendship and cooperation between Russia and the DPRK by taking the lead in implementing the spirit of the agreement.
Kim Jong Il recalled his trip to the Bureya Hydropower Station during his Amur tour and expressed thanks again for the sincere and kind-hearted hospitality accorded by officials and people of Amur and gave his personal regards to the people of Amur and the rest of Russia.
After the meeting he hosted a dinner in honour of the guests.
The Amur governor and his party and Russian ambassador Valery Sukhinin were invited to the dinner.
Present there were Kang Sok Ju, Jang Song Thaek, Thae Jong Su and Ri Yong Chol.
The participants drank toasts to the health of Chairman Kim Jong Il and President Dmitri Medvedev and the development of the traditional DPRK-Russia friendship.
The dinner proceeded in a warm atmosphere overflowing with a feeling of friendship.
